Hood In recognition of Black His­ tory Month, the Geography and Criminal Justice departments at Mt. Hood Community College announce a series of film screen­ ings. Every Monday in February, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Visual Arts Theater on the Gresham Campus, there will be a number of short films shown from the History Makers series. Also every Thursday in Feb­ ruary, from5:30p.m.to9:30p.m. in the Visual Arts Theater, there will be four theatrical films shown that are relevant to Afri­ can-American history. The films will be “Tuskegee Airmen” on Feb. 5; “Separate but Equal” on Feb. 12; “Rosa Parks” on Feb. 19 and "Malcolm X” onFeb.26. All of the films are free and open to the public. Comparative figures for the 2004 Bush-Kerry election are provided. Each state profile is comprised of a table of results -with key factors highlighted- - and analysis. Eleven percent of the electorate voted for the first time in 2004 and 2008. In 2008, 70 percent voted for Obama whereas in 2004 only 53 percent voted for Kerry. Obama received less than 35 percent of the white vote in 13 states, with Louisiana (14 per­ cent), Mississippi (11 percent) and Alabama (10 percent) picking up the rear. With the exception of Missouri (which barely went to McCain), Obama won every state where Bush's approval rating was below 35 percent in the exit polls; he lost every state where Bush's approval rating was above 35 percent. Bush's approval rating was highest in Utah (47 percent), which supported McCain by a 29 point margin, and lowest in Washington, D.C. (8 per­ cent), where McCain received only 7 percent of the vote.
