24th annual MLK
tribute Monday
The World Arts Foundation, Inc. is
proud to present the 24th annual tribute
to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King on Mon­
day, Jan. 19, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr. National Holiday, starting at 11
a.m. at the Highland Christian Center,
7600N.E.GlisanSt.
The "Keep Alive the Dream" celebra­
tion continues to be recognized as one
of the finest community based celebra­
tions in the United States. It strives to
humbly give a voice to all citizens by
showcasing the community’s response
to great achievement in civil rights and
human dignity.
Highland Christian Center is fully
equipped with a jum bo screen and mul­
tiple television monitors throughout the
facility, accompanied with a first class
audio system and seating capacity for
1,500. The facility has multiple parking
lots and excellent handicap access.
On the eve of the inauguration of
President-elect Barack Obama, the pro­
gram offers a once in a lifetime experi­
ence, showcasing the spirit and accom­
plishments generated by unstoppable
momentum and news coverage in re­
energizing a civil rights movement,
against all odds, for the betterment of
humanity.
This year’s program features a vari­
ety of performers, including traditional
gospel with performances by and in­
cluding Linda Hombuckle and Janice
Scroggins, No Kidding Children' s Choir,
University of Oregon Gospel Choir,
Gospel Music Workshop of America
(Portland and Vancouver chapters), the
Royalty group from Seattle, and Michelle
Lang and Still Water of Seattle.
Other performances include the famed
Jefferson Dancers from Jefferson High
School and the legendary Beyons and a
host of talented young people.
D istinguished speakers with inspi­
rational words on the significance of
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s as­
pirations for equality and achieve­
ment include various civic and social
com m unity leaders.
Admi ssion is a donation of $5 or four
non-perishable food items.
“Keep Alive the Dream” will be
broadcast live KBOO Radio (90.7 FM);
