He also served as director of development and tempo­ rarily, as interim president of the Urban League of Port­ land. Leary is a Portland native and graduate of Jefferson High School and San Diego State University. He was first ap­ pointed to the MERC Com­ mission in 2(X)4 and his new term will expire in 2012. Business leader serves region The Metro Council has re­ appointed Ray Leary to serve a second term on the Metro­ politan Exposition Recreation Commission. “I am pleased to reappoint Ray to the MERC commis­ sion said Metro Council President David Bragdon. “He has served the region well in his first term and will continue to bring his wealth of business, economic development and community-building skills tothe table.” In his first term as MERC Commissioner, Leary worked to expand business and eco­ nomic development opportu­ nities, such as the Oregon ConventionCenter Headquar­ ter Hotel, and played a key role in shaping the vision and strategic planning of the Com­ mission. "Ray's leadership in the Portland business community has proved invaluable to the MERC Com m ission," said Don Trotter, MERC Commis­ sion Chair. "I am thrilled that he will be continuing his ser­ vice to the community as a MERC Commissioner."
