Ray Charles Tribute Band on ÖPB

The story of the Ray Charles Tribute Band
will be told this week on Oregon Art Beat on
Oregon Public Broadcasting.
The band is one of the largest collections of
musical talent from the Pacific Northwest on
one stage. They came together almost by acci­
dent, but their performance was such an imme-

Jazz Festival -The Uni­
versity of Portland, Chiles
Center, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd..
hosts a jazz ensemble from various
schools this week. On Wednesday, April 9,
middle and junior high students will perform, and on
Thursday, April 10. high schools will perform. Perfor­
mances will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., each day.

M atsiko Children’s Choir — The Vancouver Av­
enue First Baptist Church, 3138 N. Vancouver Ave.,
will present the Matsiko Children’s Choir on Sunday,
April 13 at 3 p.m. The choir is made up of 29 orphaned
and at-risk children and they perform some of the
most powerfu I and complex drum routines ever heard.

Shades o f Blue - The Portland Gay Symphonic Band
will present its "Shades of Blue" concert on Saturday,
April 12 at 5 p.m. in Reed College's Kaul Auditorium.
