Powerful Performances Inspire Hope Matsiko Children’s Choir to visit Portland The Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church will present the Matsiko Children's Choir. Matsiko gets its name from the Ugandan word for “hope." and the children perform songs that give just that to those who listen. A Matsiko performance includes more than the children’s beautiful harmonies. During the concert they share cultural dances, act out dra mas, and perform some of the most powerful and complex drum routines ever heard. Matsiko is made up of 29 orphaned and at-risk children accompanied by five Ugandan leaders and ten International Children’s Network volun teers. However, this choir is unique to all travel ing kids’ choirs from around the world. These kids sing not for themselves, but for others like them, in need of sponsorship and a hand up into the world that it out of reach for too many of them. Their distinctive sound comes together to create a truly exceptional perfor mance one will never forget. The concert is free to the public. Donations will benefit the worldwide programsof the Inter national Children's Network. This African choir will be in concert on Sun day, April 13 ,at 3 p.m. at the Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church, 3138 N. Vancouver Av enue.
