Revival on Stage
Teaches Respect
Godspell plays at Interstate Firehouse
Godspell, one of the biggest
off-Broadway successes of all
time, is reborn at the Interstate
Firehouse Cultural Center, 5340
N. Interstate Ave.
The production highlights the
sparkling, seminal score by
Stephen Schwartz, who went
on to write music for Wicked,
boasting a stream of recogniz
able songs, led by the interna
tional hit, “Day by Day.”
The local company behind
the revival, Stumptown Stages,
argues that Godspell’s message
o f learning respect for our
neighbor’s beliefs resonates as
much today as it did during the
‘70s.
Inspired by Harvey C ox’s
book “Feast of Fools,” Godspel 1
is a musical celebration of the
Gospel according to Matthew.
Its cast, through delightful
storytelling, burlesque, music,
comedy and dance, attempt to
inspire the audience to form
community in an urban setting
with the work of local graffiti
artist Ben Zumwalt.
The show runs Fridays and
Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sun
days at 2 p.m. from Friday, Nov.
2 to Dec. I . Tickets are $27, $25
for students and seniors at the
door, but group discounts and
more information can be found
at stumptownstages.com or by
calling 503-381-8686.
