Sharon Scott-Johnson
Sharon D em ice Scott-Johnson w as bom in
Portland on July 19,1955, the third o f five children
bom to A lbert Scott Sr. and Elnetta H uff Scott.
The only daughter in the fam ily, she w as the
apple o f her father’s eye, a jew el in her b rothers’
hearts and shared an extraordinarily close rela­
tionship w ith her m other.
She was raised in the church, spending many
years in activities at Bethel A.M .E. She attended
H ighland G rade School and G irls Poly-Jam es
M onroe H igh School w here she participated in
various school activities and organizations in­
cluding the cheerleading squad, the B lack Stu­
dent Union, and w as elected class president,
w inning many aw ards and accolades along the
w ay. D uring those
teen years, Sharon
was well know n for
her “fro ” and she
w ore it well.
She spent several
years w orking in the
fa m ily b u s in e s s -
Coast Industries- be­
fore m oving to the
Bay A rea w here she
began a new career
in the insurance in­
dustry. She returned to Portland in the early 8 0 ’s
and in 1990 met the love o f her life, Robert “ Bob”
Johnson. T hey m arried on Feb. 12, 1991 and
rem ained together until death separated them on
April 15,2004 when Bob w as called hom e to be
with the Lord.
Sharon inherited the fam ily’scom ic gene, arm ­
ing her w ith the gift o f a quick wit and a p articu­
larly w icked sense o f hum or, o f w hich, if you
w eren’t careful, you m ight find yourself the v ic­
tim, lovingly so, o f course. She had an uncanny
ability to find the hum or in alm ost any situation
and was the epitom e o f som eone w ho had little
difficulty making lem onade w hen life handed her
a bowl o f lem ons.
Sharon w as also preceded in death by her
father. She leaves to cherish her m em ory, her
mother; brothers: M onde Scott (C ynthia), Albert
Scott, Jr. (C ham eall), K enneth Scott (A m y) and
Tim othy Scott (Lynette); tw o stepsons: Daniel
and Robert Johnson all o f Portland; and a host o f
nieces and nephew s, aunts, uncles, cousins,
extended fam ily and friends.

Thursday that the “Food Bank's w are­
house shelves are as em pty as I've ever
seen them."
She said in the last few weeks, weekly
offerings have dropped by 25-75 per­
cent and statew ide deliveries are down
200,000 pounds per week.

24, 2007 just two days before what would have been
her 69th birthday. She was born Sept. 26, 1938 in
Manhattan, Kan.
Funeral services are pending.
