Peaceful Last
Thursday Plans
Businesses and neighbors along
Northeast Alberta Street hope to
see a safer Last Thursday Art Walk,
after an alcohol-related incident
ended last m onth's event with a
few arrests. A group organized ear
lier this month to address the issue,
and to strategize how to keep this
w eek's event welcoming for every
one.
"It is only within such an atmo
sphere that the neighborhood and
its an and commerce can be created
and a p p re c ia ted ," said Joe
Blanchette. Art on Alberta president
and manager of Talisman Gallery.
The community groups agreed
to encourage limits on alcohol con
sumption at non-licensed venues,
to discourage illegal behavior on
the street, support city education
and enforcement of alcohol and
noise regulations, and provide
restroom and waste disposal facili
ties during the event.

It's more respectful to those who
don't smoke. There is a reason these
people choose not to smoke. If
people want to smoke make them
smoke outside.
I think smoking outside is
fine. Bars get too smoky
otherwise. Besides, my
girlfriend doesn’t smoke,
so I don’t smoke when I
out with her anyway."

It's a good thing. I only care
in the winter when we have
to go outside to smoke. I
don’t want to bother
someone and I don't want
to harm my friends.”
"It's good for the
community. It's one
reason I stopped going
out. I hate being around
smoke. I would go out
more if this law passed."

It is Ridiculous! There are plenty of bars where smoking
is not allowed. I want to go somewhere and drink and
smoke. If you are so worried about health, why are you
at a bar drinking?"
