On Friday, May 4, Pasion Flamenco
Productions will bring Flamenco Din
ner Theater to the Acadian Ballroom.
1829 N.E. Alberta St., for the first
time ever, featuring authentic fla
menco performers directly from Spain.
A vibrant art form with ancient
roots, flam enco has become an interna
tionally celebrated phenomenon. In its
birthplace, flamenco is not simply a
staged performance “acted out" before
an audience of strangers. Rather, fla
menco lives and breathe where friends
gather to share life, or la vida!
In Spain, flam enco becomes more
than just a performance - it becomes an
intimate form of expression between
friends, fam ilies and lovers.
This performance will envelope the
participants in the flavors, sounds, sights
and smells of a true flamenco evening,
as they savor the cuisine o f Spain while
watching the fiery performance of danc
ers of Madrid.
Admission is $99, which includes hors
d ’oeuvre, a five-course meal, dessert,
all non-alcoholic beverages and gratu
ity.

(AP) — The governm ent will evacu
ate residents and businesses from the
banks of a fjord in southern Chile where
10 people were swept away by 26-foot
waves follow ing a pow erful earthquake.
At least three people died Saturday
when they were engulfed by the massive
waves, which were triggered by a 6.2-
m agnitude quake that sent avalanches
o f rock crashing into the w ater at the
base o f Aysen Fjord. Rescuers were
searching Monday for the other seven
people.
Experts warned that the fjord is unsafe

in the area. There have been hundreds of
quakes in the region since Jan. 22. most
too weak to be felt. Seism ologist O scar
Aranda, who is investigating the quakes
for the governm ent, recom m ended that
people not remain at the base of the fjord.
President M ichelle Bachelet on Sun
day visited Puerto Aysen, a city close to
the fjord about 1,700 miles south o f the
Chilean capital o f Santiago, where she
was met by hundreds o f angry residents
who claim the governm ent is not paying
attention to their needs.
A tremor rocks southern Chile's Aysen fjord on
Saturday. Authorities say repeated earthquakes in
the area may be related to the birth o f an under
sea volcano.
