Eleven members of the legend­ ary photo agency immediately dis­ persed from their monthly meeting in New York as the events unfolded to document the incomprehensible. “New York, Sept. 11” consists of 37 color and black and white photo­ graphs that are by turns haunting, surreal and breathtaking. The tour opens Friday, March 2 and runs through May 26 at the Oregon His­ torical Society. Organized by International Arts & Artists, Washington, D.C., the tour is one two photo exhibits the museum is featuring on the 9-11 attack during the next several weeks. Photographer Nathan Lyons, known for his honest and often questioning depictions of Ameri­ can culture, is featured in the other tour, creating his own poignant sequence of images in response to the events of Sept. 11. Photographing in both New York Poet Resonates with Blues Rhythms Kevin Young’s poetry resonates with blues rhythms, cinematic images and African American history.
