Inspiration Through Art
in ‘The Yellow Boat’
Insight Out Theatre Collective
and CITE Educational Theatre col­
laborate to bring to the stage "The
Yellow Boat," a play addressing
how fear and ignorance give way
to inspiration and imagination.
Performances begin Friday, Jan.
19 at southeast Portland’s Echo
Theatre.
Written by David Saar and di­
rected by Andrés Alcalá, this stun­
ning play tells the true story of the
young and gifted visual artist Ben­
jamin Saar, a hemophiliac whocon-
tracts HIV and then AIDS through
a blood transfusion.
Benjamin creates inspired draw­
ings and paintings that transform
his pain and express his under­
standing o f life.
The play examines how fear and
ignorance grip the perspectives of
the adults who surround him, only
to be released by the heart and
imagination of this young boy.
