of color in Hight from around the
world
Her aim is to redefine the
face of aerospace and aviation
and open these science and tech­
nology fields for all students.
Jemison, the first woman of
color in the world to go into
space, hosted the "R eality
Leads Fantasy— Celebrating
Women of Color in Flight"
symposium last month in Chi­
cago, sponsored by the Dor­
othy Jemison Foundation for
Excellence.
The purpose was to high­
light the in c re d ib le roles
women of color from around
the world have and continue
to play in pushing the envelope
of altitude, human endurance,
speed, air transportation and
space exploration; as well as

Local flavor takes a backseat at Portland
Community College as it celebrates Interna­
tional Education Week.
At each o f the three com prehensive cam ­
puses around the Portland metro area next
week, PCC will host fairs and speakers to
discuss what life is like abroad.
The keynote speaker is Oregonian photog­
rapher Randy Rasmussen whose 20-m inute
power point dem onstration "Life in Iraq with
the Oregon National G uard.” will show sol­
diers in Iraq from two trips he made to the
country while imbedded with U.S. soldiers.
The event takes place from noon to I p.m. on
Thursday. Nov. 16 in the Upper Mall of the
CC Building at the Sylvania Campus.
In addition, PCC faculty who traveled to
India, China, Brazil and Japan during the
summer to study other educational systems
will present on their experiences.
Each campus will also host an International
Student Showcase from noon to 1 p.m. on
Tuesday, Nov. 14 in Building 3 mall at the
Rock Creek campus; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on
W ednesday, Nov. 15 in the Student Center
cafeteria at the Cascade Cam pus; and 1 1
a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16 in theC C
Building at the Sylvania Campus.
