extrem ely divisive. She was both

pagandist. Although Riefenstahl
was adm ired by such greats as Walt
Disney, Charlie Chaplin and Andy

many. Riefenstahl claim ed until her
death in 2003 that her obsession
with creating perfect art left her
blind to the fascist propaganda
machine that used her film to hyp­
notize a nation.
The stage production by Sarah

Riefenstahl directing her own auto­
biographical film, explores themes
ot artistic responsibility, modern
media, and personal and social
myth-making.

‘Nixon’s Nixon’ at Old Church
The Portland Civic Theatre G uild’s 48th season o f First Tuesday
Readers Theatre continues on T uesday, Nov. 7, Election Day. with
the satirical political com edy, “N ixon’s Nixon,” featuring Gary
Brickner-Schulz and D uffy Epstein, at P ortland's Old Church, 1422
S.W. 11 th Ave. Coffee hour begins at 10 a.rn. with the perform ance
at 10:30 a.in. Admission is $6 at the door.
Russell Lees’ play, written in 1995, explores what might have gone
through the infamous President’s mind the night before his famous
departure from the W hite House. Although N ixon’s resignation
occurred more than 30 years ago, its relevance to current political
events is undeniable. The audience listens in on a clandestine
meeting between Nixon and his testy Secretary o f State, Henry
K issinger - and becom es privy to their frightening logic and the
rationalizations o f the cornered elite.
