T here's a place from which nothing escapes,
not even light, where ti me and space literally come
to end. It's at this p o in t, inside this fantastic riddle,
that black holes ex en their sway over the cos
mos... and our im aginations.
The bizarre realm o f a black hole is crossed in
the O regon M useum o f Science and Industry's
(OM SI) planetarium show. Black Holes: The Other
Side o f Infinity w hich opened Tuesday.
V iew ers lake a thrilling ride on the search for
black holes across deep space. They encounter a
range o f spectacular cosm ic w onders including a
depiction o f the beginni ng o f the universe, the Big
Bang, endless seas o f dust and gas draw n to
gether by gravity to form the first stars, the
collision o f tw o galaxies that cross paths in the
vastness o f space, and a virtual trip into the center
o f the M ilky Way galaxy.
The exciting visuals are made possible by a
unique softw are program and Hight sim ulator that
transform s real scientific data about black holes
into stunning, colorful visualizations.
OM SI is located at 1945 S.E. W ater Ave. For
more inform ation, call 503-797-4000 or visit
