Little League Team in Semifinals
Bounces back with
two straight wins
(AP) - O regon's first entry into the Little
League World Series since 1958 advanced to
the next round Monday after Murrayhi II won its
second straight game after an initial defeat in
the tournament in South Williamsport, Pa.
Devin Dejardin singled home the game-win
ning run and Murrayhi II of Beaverton benefited
from timely double plays to beat Columbia,
Mo., 2 -1 on Monday night and advance to the
semifinals.
After Miguel Rivera doubled off the right-
field wall with one out in the top of the sixth,
pinch-runner Austin Perry advanced to third
onapassed hall. Dejardin followed with an RBI
single to center.
Starter Jace Fry struck out the side in the
bottom of the sixth, drawing cheers of "Go
Northwest! Go Northwest!" outside Lamade
Stadium. Murrayhill is the Northwest Division
Champion.
Fry overcame some early wildness. He

walked three to load the bases w ith one out in
the third, but got out of the jam with a strikeout
and groundout.
Fry also got two inning-ending double plays
in the game.
Offensively, he tied the game with an RBI
double in the fifth. Jeffrey Ausmus knocked in

the only run for the Daniel Boone league team
from Columbia ( l -2). He beat out a slow bouncer
in front of the plate, allowing Beau Burkett to
score from third.
The loss knocked Columbia out of the tour
nament. M urrayhill's first game in the semifi
nals is Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

(AP) — Pat Hurst watched ex
pressionless as Jcong Jang pre
pared to putt on the 18th hole
Sunday at the Safeway Classic at
Colum bia Edgew ater G olf Club.
Hurst had already wrapped up
her round, a 4-under 68 that gave
her the lead.
Jang was a shot back, but her
birdie putt was less than 18 feet
away. If she sank it, a playoff would
be necessary.
"I kept thinking l didn't want to
miss on the low side." Jang said.
"But I did."
Jang finished with a 70 for a 9-
under 207 and was the runner-up at
the tournament for the third time -
one shot back of Hurst.
"I had a pretty hot start. I birdied
three of the first four holes, I think,
and I just kept it steady after that,"
Hurst said.
It was Hurst's fil th victory on the
LPGA Tour and first since last year's
State Farm Classic.
