An inaugural w eekend o f Rose Festival Events kicked
o ff early Saturday, June 3 with the Eddie Barnett Jr.
Foundation W alk for Life, a benefit for the local non­
profit organization form ed to make a difference for
young people diagnosed with Hypertrophic C ardiom y­
opathy, the form o f heart disease that eventually took
B arnett’s life in 2005.
B arnett's m other, C hristeen Johnson, organized the
3.8-m ile walk beginning at Jefferson High School on
North Com m ercial and K illingsworth, and ending at
G rant High School at Northeast 33rd and Thom pson.
A lm ost 100 people participated in the event, raising
$1,100 but falling short o f total expenses. You can still
help by making donations by calling the foundation at
