to increase the num ber o f c u l­

P ortland schools.
Im plem ented in 1989 as a
response to the critical shortage
o f cu lturally and ethnically d i­
verse teachers, the program has
g raduated KM) teachers, m ost
o f w hom continue to teach in
P ortland schools. Several have
also becom e principals and vice
principals.

e ra l p ro g ra m s a n d fu n d in g
sources that are critical to co m ­
m unity colleges and the students
they serve.
