The White Bird/PSU Dance Se ries is proud to present the Portland debut of its third electrifying Australian dance company, the internationally acclaimed Leigh Warren & Dancers on Thursday — Saturday. March 23— 25 at Portland State University’s Lincoln Performance Hall. The company of seven superbly trained dancers will perform Quick Brown Fox. developed by Leigh War ren in collaboration with renowned international chore ographer William Forsythe. The program fuses the dazzling speed and over-extended movements of Forsythe's style with W arren's elegant lines and puck ish humor. The initial impulse for the work was the well-known typing exercise of the fox jumping over the lazy dog. Words are expressed through body and bounced off the surrounding surfaces. Computer generated screen mediaextends the stage lighting to enhance the illusion of boundless surfaces. Warren said his aim is “to describe something of the very nature of dance itself, the interplay between the dancers and their relationship with the audience. The movement vocabulary embraces our collective experi ence from classical ballet to hip-hop.” Admission is $14 for college students with ID and seniors 62 and over and $25 for adults. Tickets are available at the PSU Box Office, 1825 S.W. Broad way, and at all Ticketmaster Outlets, 503-790-2787. Each dancer from the Leigh Warren and Dancers Company develops unique movements. “ B ecau se I k n o w how to play jazz an d th a t’s w here m y h e art is, I need to c o m e b a ck to so m e th in g sim p le a g ain to satisfy m y in teg rity .
