Children of Uganda will be back
in Portland after a recent perfor­
mance to thrill a local audience one
more time on Saturday, Feb. 11 at
7:30 p.m. at the First Congrega­
tional United Church of Christ on
112 6 S.W. Park Ave.
The group has performed at the
White House, the World Bank, the
David Letterman Show and on
Oprah.
The children travel the world
as Ugandan am bassadors to edu­
cate and inspire. Each m ember
has lost one or both o f their par­
ents to AIDS or civil war. They
are hailed as “first rate” and “in ­
spiring” by The New York Times,
m esm erizing and moving audi­
ences with authentic artistry, ath ­
letic skill, pulsing rhythm s, pow ­
erful drums, lyric flutes, and songs
o f joy and hope.
The upcoming concert will raise
funds for the Harambee Centre of
Portland, a non-profit, non-parti­
san organizatio n dedicated to
multicultural education, cross-cul­
tural exchange, and African com ­
munity development.

power and motivate youth work­
ers. volunteers and the youth them­
selves.
The Urban Youth Workers Insti­
tute. a national organization, will
sponsor the one-day conference
titled “Reload" from 8:30a.m . to 3
p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28.
Breakfast and lunch will be pro­
vided. The cost is $ 10 for pre-regis­
tration and $ 15 the day of the con­
