Sistahs Provide Lessons in Healthcare

care and m idwifery during a six-
month Sistah Care program that
starts with an orientation ses
sion on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Each class starts with a 15
minute walk or some form of exer
cise to help form healthy habits
that can prevent many diseases,
like diabetes and hypertension,
conditions that are more common
in the African-American com m u
nity. Also Sistah Care students
are assisted with finding scholar
ships and resume help to advance

program teaches teenage girls
about the practices of African
midwifery and older student serve

peers.
“This program helps young
girls become culturally confident,
learn responsibility and show
care for their com m unity,’* said
Eaglehorse, who also likes the
cu ltural com ponent o f Sistah
Care.
Eaglehorse is from Eastern O r
egon and is of Native American
decent. She has seen how mid
wifes provide valuable services
in the minority com m unity. In
some areas and back in slavery,
the midwife was the doctor, pro
viding all the care for the commu
nity making her presence a piv
otal one in the com m unity.

FBI Faulted in Muslim Arrest

D epartm ent's internal watchdog on
Friday faulted the FBI for sloppy
work in m istakenly linking an O r
egon lawyer, a Muslim convert, to
the 2004 M adrid train bom bings.
