Ray Charles Post Office Named ( AP) — T he w arm voice o f Ray C h arles filled the L os A ngeles neighborhood near his recording studio during an Aug. 24 cerem ony christening a post office in his name. “ M y hopes are that the nam ing o f this post office facility is only the first o f m any tributes for a man who started from now here to end up a national treasure and global phe­ n o m e n o n ,” s a id R e p . D ia n e W atson, D -C alif., w ho sponsored the federal bill to renam e the post office. Charles died in June 2004o f acute liver disease at age 73.
