Area residents are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets as The Norman Sylvester Band with its N orthwest original blues and R&B help kick o ff the series when it perform s on W ednesday, July 6 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 p.m. at the Peninsula Park G azebo area just off North Ainsworth and Albina Avenue. The group, including Rob Shoemaker, Ashbolt Stewart, Gretchen M itchell, Reggie Houston and Frankie Redding, has been perform ing in the Portland area for over 15 years. Sylvester and his band have shared the stage with such legendary stars as BB King, Buddy Guy and Tow er of Power. O ther entertainm ent scheduled during the next few weeks of the concert series includes African m usicians Chata Addy and Susuma on Tuesday, July 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Laurelhurst Park in southeast Portland; the Pan Gypsies steel drum band on July 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Dawson Park in north Portland; jazz and soul s in g e rs L in d a H o rn b u c k le a n d J a n ic e Scroggins, July 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Sellwood Riverfront Park in southeast Portland; and Rachel Taylor Brown, July 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Peninsula Park.
