T om Potter and the Portland City
C ouncil to discuss issues im por­
tant to their north and northeast
Portland neighborhoods.
Dixon expressed concerns over
the m ergers o f W hitaker and
T ubm an M iddle S chools into
Jefferson High School. The plan
has been put on hold for more
study.
D uring his tim e at the Blazers
C lub on N ortheast M artin Luther
King Jr. Boulevard, Dixon has
been a m em ber o f the basketball
team and is applying to becom e
an Y N et reporter this sum m er,
along with A dventures in T elevi­
sion, and the c lu b ’s radio show.
Josey is the Blazers Club Youth
o f the Y ear for Education and
C areer D evelopm ent. H er con­
cerns before the local govern­
m ent officials w ere the academ ic
differences betw een public and
private schools.
She said 8th grade classroom
work in private school is not taught
in m any public schools until the
ju n io r year in high school. Josey
takes part in the clu b ’s City C oun­
cil Kids program, the Tourch Club,
Poetry and Spoken W ord G roup,
and is learning the French lan­
guage.
