Oil, Metal Artists Featured The Guardino Gal lery, 2939 N.E. Alberta, will feature two artists this month featuring fabricated metal sculptors and landscape oil paint ings. Rick G regg’s metal sculptors portray anim als and abstracted form s. W ith a back g ro u n d in blacksmithing and fabrication, he uses torches to sculpt beyond nor mal boundaries of heating, bending and welding to push the metal with the flame in the way sculptors w ould m ove clay w ith their thumbs. Michael Southern will be show- ing a selection of his most recent landscapes. Painting with oil on woods, he’s drawn to bold natural colors connected to the outdoors. A reception for both artists is scheduled May 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the Last Thursday Art Walk on Alberta. Canyon Rd., across from the Oregon Zoo, is offering a celebration of the music, words and rhythms of world cultures each Sunday though June 26. I think the only other time they had a black person on there was the Globetrotters,” Muhammad said. (The Harlem Globetrotters vis ited the island in a 1981 TV movie.)
