Engineering (DE) and suppliers
(both in te rn a l and e xte rn a l).
Create and e dit com plex part
drawings and assembly drawings
based on design directions from
PDE w hich are in the form of
rough sketches or general verbal
directions. Route and complete
E n g in e e rin g C h a n g e N o tice s
(ECNs) supporting new product
development (NPD) including new
product releases and changes to
designs as requested by PDE.
Successful candidates must have the
following skills and experience:

experience in drafting required.
Must demonstrate knowledge of
PC and CAD h a rd w a re and
software. Course work in GD & T
(G e o m e tric D im e n s io n in g &
Toleran cin g) o r dem onstrated
a b ility to c o m p re h e n d at an
interm ediate level is required.

AutoCAD and Inventor experience

Wilberforce Choir to Perform
O n M o n d ay M ay 16, the
Wilberforce University Choir will
have a 7 p.m. concert at Bethel
AME Church, 5828 N.E. Eighth
Ave.
The choir, under the direction of
Jeremy Winston, the university’s
distinguished chair of sacred and
choral music, will perform a variety
of music ranging from Broadway
hits to African-American Spiritu­
als.
This concert is free and open to
everyone wishing to attend. For

Portland Woman Broke Barriers
Funeral arrangem ents for
Harrie Bell Cross-Paris, a long
time Portland resident who died
at the age of 87, are under the
direction of Cox and Cox Funeral
Home.
She was born Nov. 1,1917 in
Dekalb, Texas, the daughter of
M irara Lou Johnson and Will
Thurman. She attended school
in Beaumont, Texas, where she
also accepted C hrist as her
personal savior and was bap­
tized at an early age.
She moved to Portland in 1935,
to jo in h er b ro th er, W illie
Thurman. She later met and mar­
ried William Cross; he died in
1959. From this union, one son,
Abdul Halim Rahsaan, formerly
known as William Earle Cross,
was bom. She met and married
John Paris in 1967.
During the W orld W ar II era,
Harrie Bell became the first of
two African American women
to be e m p lo y e d w ith the
Harrie Belle Cross-Paris
Lippman Wolfe Department Store
in Portland. She was also among
the first group of women to be
employed with the Portland Ship
Repair Yard during this same era.
Later she went on to work for Lewis
and Clark College where she be­
came Lead Supervisor of H ouse­
keeping Services for 25 years. She
retired in 1984. She was also a very
successful Avon Representative
for over 40 years.
Shejoined the Mt. Olivet Bap­
tist Church, under the pastorate
of the late Rev. James S. Clow,
where she remained a faithful
member for more than 60 years.
She was also active in her com­
munity, being a member of the
NAACP, Texas Social Club,
Oklahoma Social Club, Former
President of the Northwest Re­
gion of the National Council of
Negro Women, Altruistic Club,
Delta Mother’s Club, Birthday
Club and Oasis Club.
She was also preceded in
death by her four brothers,
W illie, George, Charlie and
Harry.
C h e r is h in g h e r lo v in g
memory are her husband and
son; nine grandchildren; 14
g r e a t- g r a n d c h ild r e n ; o n e
great-great grandchild; and
host of nieces, nephews, cous­
ins, neighbors and devoted
friends.
