stop, participating lenders will add a portion o f their potential
transportation savings to their qualifying income.

financial incentives to purchase a
home near public transportation.
The Portland Regional Smart
Com m ute Initiative recognizes the
potential cost savings available to
users o f public transit and allows
qualified buyers to convert that
savings into additional borrowing
power for a home mortgage.
For eligible home buyers who
choose a home withi n a half mile of
a light rail station or within aquarter
mile o f a com m uter bus stop, par
ticipating lenders will add a portion
o f their potential transportation
savings to their qualifying income
— which increases their potential
borrowing power and helps them
buy more home for their money.
In addition, homeowners who ob
tain a mortgage under the initiative will
receive free passes for one month on
TriMet buses and light rail trains. Also,
FlexcaroffersSmartCommute partici
pants who join the car share program
$ 100 of free initial usage credit.
