Applegate Elementary School is throwing a Sock
Hop on Wednesday, Nov. 3 to celebrate 50 years in
north Portland.
We re rolling up our jeans and putting on our
saddle shoes and hiring a deejay to spin ‘50s music,”
said Robin Morrison, principal at Applegate.
The school at 7650 N. Commercial is inviting
alumni, former staff and the Applegate community
for cake and punch, music and fun from 6:30 to 8
p.m.

healing to families affected by sense
less violence, a group is hosting a pre
holiday Common Bond Dinner at the
Matt Dishman Community Center in
northeast Portland on Saturday, Nov.
13, with doors opening at 3 p.m. for a
social hour. Following dinner, served
at 4 p.in., families will have an oppor
tunity to share their personal stories,
with keynote speakers.
The dinner was scheduled to bring
together families that have lost loved
ones, or have been affected by a vio
lent act within the family. Realizing
that there are a lot of mental health
issues caused by violence and the
holidays seem to always bring back
memories, it is important to bring these
people together to share their stories
and feelings to begin healing, accord
ing to event organizers.
