Guilty Plea in Family Murder
North Portland man escapes death penalty
(A P)— Edward Morris, the north
Portland man accused o f killing his
pregnant wife and their three chil
dren, will serve four consecutive
life sentences without parole after
agreeing M onday to plead guilty to
the murders.
M orris, 39, avoided a possible
death sentence as a part o f the plea
worked out between his lawyers
and p ro sec u to rs in T illam o o k
County. The bodies o f Renee Mor
ris and her three chi Idren were found
in a remote area o f the Tillamook
State Forest in December 2002.
A formal plea and sentencing is
scheduled for Nov. 15. Morris has
agreed not to appeal.
Edward Morris
After his arrest in January 2003,
detectives said Morris told them he
had been planning the murders for
about three weeks.
Morris said he shot his 31-year-
old wife and two sons— ages 4 and
10 — in a car along H igh way 6 near
the Oregon state prison cam p in the
Tillamixik State Forest, according
to court documents.
He said he then killed his 8-year-
old daughter and left the four bod
ies alongside a logging road in the
forest, where they were found. An
autopsy showed the daughter had
been stabbed at least 18 times.
One body was found by elk hunt
ers. The others were found nearby
by authorities.
Morris then went on the run for
a few weeks to Nevada and Arizona
before he was finally arrested Jan.

Authorities said Marambe is
well dressed and can be quite

Marambe is a black male, about
