The Teen Challenge Thrift Store in the Hollywood District moved much o f its donation processing to its basement to provide more room for the various used merchandise it carries. Profits from the thrift store help support the Teen Challenge recov­ ery program, a residential facility in which young men and women leam life skills and overcome an addic­ tion to drugs and alcohol. All young adults in the program work at the Teen Challenge Thrift Store. “We employ them as part of our recovery program to build work experience,” said Jonathan Ander­ son, com munications director for Teen Challenge o f Portland. "One o f the painful realities is there is no part o f society that is immune from drug and alcohol ad­ diction, so we see people from all different backgrounds," he said of the diverse community they serve.
