Parks Season Begins with Party
Free swimming, games and crafts will kick off the Portland Parks and
Recreation summer season during a celebration at Peninsula Park, 700
N. Portland Blvd. on Friday.June 18 from 11:30a.m. to 1 p.m.
A tree NikeOO basketball mini-clinic is scheduled during the party,
giving area kids a taste of the fun they can enjoy in Portland parks all
summer long.
Parents are invited1 to the festivities to learn more about the 2,000
summer recreation activities available through the parks department.
The selection includes day camps, arts and crafts, sports, swimming and
many other opportunities
Park Shuttle Starts Busy Season
The Washington Park Shuttle is an easy way to get around some of
Oregon’s most popular attractions throughout the summer.
The shuttle stops at the Oregon Zoo, the Children’s Museum 2nd
Generation, the International Rose Test Garden, the Japanese Garden,
Hoyt Arboretum, Forest Discovery Center, Vietnam Veterans Memo­
rial, Rose Garden Children’s Play Park and hiking trails.
Catching the shuttle iseasy by ridingTriMet’s Max Blue or Red Line
to Washington Park Station and taking the elevator to ground level. The
shuttle runs at least every 15 minutes between 10a.m. and 7 p.m. through
Labor Day.

C-Tran Sells Summer Passes
C-Tran has partnered with Vancouver area businesses to offer the
Summer Blast Pass giving youth 18 years of age and younger unlimited
rides on all C-TRAN routes as well as free rides on TriMet buses and
MAX in Portland.
The Summer Blast Pass costs $24 for a June 20 through Aug. 3 1 pass
and $12 for a July 20 through Aug. 31 pass.

House of Umoja Summer Camp
Northeast Portland’s House of Umoja offers culturally based educa­
tional activities during its summer camp for youth, ages 11 through 15,
each Monday though Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning June 28
and continuing through Aug. 19.
Daily snacks and lunches and weekly field trips are provided in
