A career fair can make your job
search much easier. It gives you
the opportunity to met recruiters
from dozens ofcompanies all in
one place over only a few hours.
But career fairs have their own
special set o f chai lenges. The way
to stand out from all the other job
seekers requires preparation, prac­
tice, skills and stamina.
To do your homework, find a
list o f companies attending the
fair. H ighlightcom paniesthat in­
terest you and make sure you speak
withyourtopchoices. W ritedown
key points about the companies
that interest you fo ra quick refer­
ence before you approach their
booth.
Prepare your introduction to re­
cruiters in advance. Use a smile, a
handshake and a one-minute expla­
nation o f your basic skills, experi­
ence and the type o f job you're
seeking.
Dress just as professionally for
a career fair as you would for an
interview. Men should wear a tie.
Women should wear stockings.
Don’t arrive without a healthy
stack o f resumes in tow. You don't
w ant to find y o u rself halfw ay
through the fair, and real ize you've
run out o f resumes. Have several
styles o f your resume tailored for
different industries. After talking
with a recruiter, decide which re­
sume is most appropriate.
