Funeral services were held Tues-
day, Aug. 19 for Charles W illiams
M onroe, (also know n as CW ,
D et'da, Charlie and Little Junk) at
V emon Presbyterian Church
Mr. Monroe died Aug 13 at age
82.
He was bom to Cal Monroe and
Pasty W illiam son Aug. 3,1921, in
Crossett, Ark. He moved from Ar­
kansas to Arizona and Nevada and
finally settled in Vanport, Ore. in
1941.
He w orked for S outhern Pa­
cific, the shipyards, S w ift P ack­
ing C o., A nchorage Sand and
G ravel in A laska and Tube F org­
ing o f A m erica (Z idell C orp.),
w here he retired after 17 years o f
service. He was a m em ber o f the
I n te rn a tio n a l A s s o c ia tio n o f
M achinist and W orkers Lodge
No. 24 and a member o f AFL-CIO
Local 296.
Mr. M onroe w as also a m em ­
ber o f the St. Joseph Grand Lodge.
Follow ing his retirem ent, he co n ­
tinued to w ork by tending to his
gardening and cleaning up in the
com m unity. He was a faithful and
dedicated m em ber o f the usher
board ofG enesis Com m unity Fel­
low ship Church, form erly known
as Mt. Sinai, and w as com m itted
to v isitin g the sick after Sunday
services.

interfaith picnic at Rooster Rock
Park, site B-2, from 11 a.m .to6p.m .
Sunday, Aug. 24.
This Muslim-Jewish Picnic in the
Park features cricket matches be­
tween the Bazaar Cricket Associa­
tion and the Portland Cricket team,
volleyball, sack races, tug o f war
and crafts. There will also be a
Muslim Duhr prayer and “Words
o f W isdom,” presented by Rabbi
Joey W olfof Havurah Shalom and
Mohammad Najleb, Imam o f the
Muslim Community Center.
Halal and kosher barbecue is
available, and participants are en­
couraged to bring $3 for parking,
games, lawn chairs and a vegetar­
ian dish to share. Donations are

borhood group offered conceptual
approval o f the project after Powell
promised the school would upgrade
the sidewalks as part o f construc­
tion.
Powell also said the school will
consider making its new facilities,
including its gym, available for com­
m unity use during non-school
hours.

Kenton board. “Many o f them used
