Cha-cha Cubana in Portland
Oregon Zoo concert goers can rumba, cha-cha or
just soak up the sound when Cubanismo performs on
Wednesday, Aug. 13, and relax as Stella Chiweshe,
"Queen o f Zimbabwe" reigns over the concert lawn
on Thursday, Aug. 14. Both concerts begin at 7 p.m.
Cubanismo fuses the traditional sounds o f Cuba
with contemporaryjazz idioms, and C'hiweshe’s Afri-
Patience Sewor and Kwaku Mensah participate in Homowo, a
harvest festival marked by traditional Ghanaian dancing, music,
crafts and food This year's annual event is held on Saturday,
Aug. 9 and Sunday, Aug. 10 on the South Park Blocks at Port­
land State University.
