Aretha Franklin
(AP)— Aretha Franklin may
reign indefinitely as the Queen
o f Soul, but as a touring entity,
she’s the queen o f “so long.”
The R& B icon says her cur
rent outing, which started last
Friday and stretches into fall,
willbe her last. She’snot abdi
cating a throne she has occu
pied for more than three de

albums in the works and in
tends to perform occasional ly

’I’ll never quit,"she vows. Aretha Franklin will soon conclude her life as a touring artist.

been. I’m scaling it down.”
Her final road show, which
she has tentatively dubbed
“Aretha Sings Her Musical His

early years and draw from
Broadw ay’s songbooks for
material she has never per
formed live. She also has honed
new versions o f favorites such
a s“A in’tN oW ay” and“Free-
way o f Love.” Expect a nostal
gic ride.
After she pul Is o ff the road,
Franklin plans to devote time
helping her sons pursue record
deals in hip-hop.
