Local artist Jerry Quenton watches as his sandblasted artwork is installed in a bus shelter on Alberta
Street. As a way of enhancing the community with art while deterring grafitti and vandalism, Quenton's
design, entitled ‘The Three Kings, ’ will be seen in eight TriMet bus shelters on Alberta between Martin
Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Northeast 33ra Avenues. By sandblasting over damaged glass, TriMet is
able to save more than $100,000 annually and simultaneously add art to Portland neighborhoods.

Construction Begins on
PCC Cascade Campus
Kelli Bestwick loves what she
does.
The former north Portland resi
dent and current owner o f Interior
Construction Enterprise, Inc. of
Newberg is a pioneer in interior
construction. From metal framing
to dry wall and acoustical ceiling
installation, Bestwick’s persever
ance in an industry dominated by
men makes her stand out.
What also makes her stand out is
her love o f construction and serv
ing the community. Bestwick is one
o f several sub-contractors work
ing on the expansion o f the Cas-
cadeCampus through the college’s
Minority, Women and Emerging
Small Business effort.
“I get a whole lot of satisfaction
in this,” Bestwick said looking at
the framed structure o f the campus’
Jackson Hall addition. "I drive by
the old neighborhood and see how
it has really changed. I see the
younger kids who were students’
now buying houses. It’s good PCC
is doing this. It shows that PCC
cares and shows we care.”
The com pany received a
$230,000 contract and is busily
putting together metal framing for
the Jackson Science Building on
North Jessup Street. Rows and rows
of metal framing dominate the exte
rior and interior of the structure.
With this initiative, PCC has al
located $2.7 million in 2002 contract
money toward women, minority or
emerging small businesses for the
construction projects.
Metal framing goes up on the Jackson Hall addition at Portland
Community College on North Jessup Street. The construction is
being paid for by a 2000 property tax measure calling for the
expansion o f the local campus.
Kelli Bestwick is
one o f the sub
contractors
working on the
expansion o f the
PCC Cascade
Campus in north
