“The Tuskegee Airmen,” a
documentary recounting the his
toric accomplishments and chal
lenges faced by the nation’s first
African-American military flyers,
will be broadcast for the first
time on PBS stations across the
country in celebration of Black
History Month.
The Tuskegee Airmen were
dedicated, determined young men
who volunteered to becom e
America’s first black military air
men. They came from every sec
tion of America, with large num
bers coming from New York
City, W ashington, D.C., Los
Angeles, Chicago, and Detroit.
Each one possessed a strong
personal desire to serve the United
States of America proudly and to
the best of his ability as an air
man, even while many other
Americans felt that black men
lacked intelligence, skill, courage
and patriotism.
