impressive debut at the B illboard M usic Awards
in Las Vegas M onday nig h t, taking home eight
awards w h ile rap star N e lly w on honors in six
categories. The album o f the year went to
Eminem fo r “ The Eminem Show."
A shanti, 22, was named the year’ s top fe
male artist, R & B /hip-hop artist and female R & B /
hip-hop artist. She also picked up awards fo r
her single “ F o o lish .”
“ I t ’ s d e fin ite ly an honor," the singer said. “ It
took me such a long tim e to get me to where I am.
I ’ m ju s t really blessed and th a n kfu l."
N e lly was named 2OO2’ s top artist, top male
artist and R & B /h ip -h o p artist. He also won
honors fo r his song "H o t in Herre,” w hich he
perform ed after em erging onstage from a mas
sive replica o f a stainless steel oven w ith flames
shooting out o f its burners.

to M ichael Jackson, w ho accepted the honor by
