who won a big jackpot in 1991, bought a scratch ticket
last week that will provide them $ 1,000 a w eek for life.
The odds o f winning were 1.2 million to one. Edith
Shinault, 59, will receive quarterly checks worth $ 13.000
before taxes as long as she lives. The couple continues
to receive a $335,000 check each May.

L ovelorn tribal separatists in India’s north-eastern
T ripura state are deserting the cause due to an influx
o f women. Police say the change in heart for militants
o f the outlaw ed N ational Liberation Front o f T ripura
(N L FT ) has com e after a recent drive to recruit female
members. The N LFT, fighting for an independent
tribal hom eland, last year announced it w ould raise
a w om en’sarm y . But the recruitm ent o f around 100
w om en into rebel ranks has inflam ed passions, with
love songs rather than the bursts o f gunfire echoing
through the jungles
From dust to stardust
A G erm an w om an is planning to blast her h usband’s
ashes into space on a Russian rocket to fulfill his last
wish. Urte M ueller is a 58-year-old nurse from Berlin.
She says she has paid an A m erican com pany about
$20,000 to arrange for the ashes o f her husband
H einz to be taken into orbit, with about 10 gram s o f
him contained in a capsule the size o f a lipstick.

past gate closing tim e. T he festival
is closed Dec. 24 and 25.
