Grant Bolsters Health Coalition Efforts DC Sniper Threatens Children
(A P )— Hours after a bus d rive r
was k ille d in a shooting that ap­
peared to be the w o rk o f the Wash-
ington-area sniper, police revealed
Tuesday they had received a mes­
sage over the weekend w arning:
“ Y o u r children are not safe any­
where at any tim e .”
The c h illin g message apparently
was discovered by police outside
a V irg in ia steakhouse where the
sniper c ritic a lly wounded a man

can Health C o a litio n o f Portland
and its collaborative partners have
developed the "N o t A fra id to T a lk ,
Test, or T ransform ” project to en­
hance existing addiction treatments
to include H IV services targeting
A fric a n A m ericans in north and
northeast Portland,

Tuesday to announce the receipt o f
the group’ s 5-year, $2.5 m illio n fed­
eral grant to pay fo r the project.
The program w ill give local resi­
dents w ith A ID S and H1V greater
access to medical care, and re­
source and referral inform ation.
Classes w ill p rovide education
about the disease and tips on pre­
vention.
The co a litio n expects to enroll
150 people in the firs t year, 250
more in the second year and 350
each year u n til it reaches an e n ro ll­
ment o f 1,450.
