The Langston Hughes Project Thursday
Flooney’s Theater Company is celebrating 30
years in performance o f “The Langston Theatre
Project” at the Old Church, 1422S.W. 11"1 A ve.on
Thursday, Oct. 1 0 -2 0 . Since 1972, the company
has dedicated itself to drawing notice to African
American authors, playwrights and humorists.
This year marks the 1 ( X)'" anni versary of Langston
Hughes’ birth, and tocom m em orate the occasion,
as well as the 30lh anniversary of the formation of

Dick Bogle Presents Jazz at the Alberta
Arts Pavilion and Our Dream Gallery
Saxaphonist Rob Scheps will headline an after­
noon o f jazz at the Alberta Arts Pavilion and Our
Dream Gallery on Sunday, Oct 13. The concerts
are produced by jazz aficionado Dick Bogle and
gallery ow ner Reggie Petry. Scheps, an Oregon
native, has played with Ray Charles and other
legendary jazz stars. Those who attend concerts
at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. can expect three solid sets of
music in the tradition o f northeast Portland. Food
and drink will be available. Admission is $8. The
gallery is located at 2315 N.E. Alberta. For more

Friends of Mult. County Library
The Friends o f Multnomah County Library are
selling over 100,000bargain-priced books, records,
CDs, sheet music and videos during its 29lh annual
used book sale, O reogn’s largest on Oct. 11,12
and 13. The sale is at the former Portland State
University Bookstore, 1880S.W. Sixth, from9a.m.

Portland Opera Saturday
Portland O pera will present its 21*' Annual Mas­
querade on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Montgomery

open its 2002/2003 season with “The Amazing
Brenda Strider,” the Northwest premiere of Alex

Paul McCartney; Friday, Oct. 18
Paul M cCartney is to play his first show in Port­
land since 1965 when he launches the second leg
of his hugely acclaim ed all-hits concert tour this
fall. The new “Back In the U.S.” show will play at
