a National Children’s Day. She later
teamed up with Ted Gunderson, the
former director o f the Los Angeles
county FBI, traveling the country to
educate others about hate crimes and
cults.
The Sept. 11 terrorist attacks fueled
her work to stop hate in all forms o f
racial discrimination and terrorism.
“Our organization wishes to bring
peace into the world by dealing with
these issues in our society,” said Dorr,
who now resides in P ortland.
After five months o f intense prepara­
tion, Dorr has organized an upcoming
conference to open the dialogue about
American prejudice, liberty and our
children’s future.
This event will be held in two ses­
sions on Sept. 7 at the New Hope Mis­
sion ary B aptist C hurch, 3725 N.
Gantenbein Ave. in Portland. The first
part will take place from 6 a.m. to 4:30
p.m., covering the topic “Homeland Se­
curity: Our Children’s Future.” After­
wards, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., the
discussion is on “Teaching Our Chil­
dren the Courage o f A merica’s Heroes”

Lolenzo T. Poe Sr.
died July 12 at his
hom e in Las Vegas.
He was 75.
He w as born Nov.
1, 1926 in Kennedy,
Ala., the youngest child o f A rsie and H osie Poe.
He com pleted his education in A labam a before
jo ining the A rm ed Forces at Ft. Lew is, Wash.
He later m oved to Portland and then to Los
A ngeles, w here he m et and m arried his w ife o f 30
years, Laura F inisterG um by. A fter years o f m ak­
ing Los A ngeles their hom e, Lolenzo and Laura
decided to relocate their successful tour business
to Las Vegas w here he retired.
Lolenzo was an active m em ber o f the Neveda
C hapter o f M asons. He loved fishing — ap a c tiv - 1)
ity both he and Laura shared as one o f their many
passions.
He is survived by his w ife; his son; Lolenzo T . :
Poe Jr.; three daughters, Pearlenzo Lew is o f G ary,
Ind., Joy cen e F ray, o f T acom a, and Janice
Robinson o f V ancouver; a sister; Joanne Blakely
o f Los A ngeles; 15 grandchildren and 18 g re a t,
grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; a
daughter, Serena; a son, Tyrone;
three sisters, Ozie McCullough and
Lawanda Harden, both o f Port­
land, and A zealine Collins o f
Tulsa, Okla.; and a brother, Clifton
D. Mullen ofGermany.
