A celebration honoring the d i
verse races and cultures in Port
land called the Race Unity F esti
val, will be held on Saturday, July
27, from 11 a .m .-5 p.m. at Portland
C om m unity C ollege’s Cascade
Cam pus. T his is a free event and
everyone is invited.
“Every year we see this festival
grow ," said Bridgette Fahnbulleh,
a m em ber o f the Race U nity
F estival’s planning cotnm ittee.
“W hat started 5 years ago as a
sim ple gathering o f people from
diverse backgrounds is now a day
packed with m usic, dance, hands-
on learning and heart-felt discus
sion.”

Festival on Saturday, July 27 at Portland Community College's
Cascade Campus.

children w ho have been in the St.
Johns Parade for several years,
and have perform ed not only at
various events in Portland, but in
G resham and Sherw ood. For the
past tw o years, they have partici
pated in the Roses A fter School
M entoring P roject held at the
Portland B aha’ i Center.
The musical perform ances will
start at noon tim e. N earby will be
an interactive table presenting
cultural displays from a wide vari
ety o f racial and cultural groups.

nearby in Terrell Hall, R oom 101.

nom ic crisis, hundreds o f prim ary

w ithout doors, leaky roofs and
antiquated plum bing. C astro said
oth er schools becam e unusable
and blam ed the tightening o f U.S.
trade sanctions during the 1990s.

ended in C anada, w here leaders
agreed to help R ussia dispose o f
its Soviet-era arsenal o f nuclear,
biological and chem ical weapons.
The $20 billion program was
met w ith a m ixed response in
M oscow , where some retired m ili
tary leaders and others have ac
cused President V ladim ir Putin of
capitulating to the W est by ag ree
ing tocooperate more closely with
N A TO and assum ing full m em
bership in the G-8.
H avana, too,' has criticized
M oscow 's alliance with NATO, as
well as its decision tw o years ago to
close the Russian intelligence lis
