Afinal Sunday morning service at the Albina Christian
Life C enter at 5522 N. A lbina will be held Sunday, July
7 at 11 a.m.
The church is m oving out o f its historic hom e in the old
Colonial Theatre after 30 years o f ministry because of the
em inent dom ain process held by Portland C om m unity
College for expansion o f the C ascade C am pus in north
Portland.
The mostly African American congregation purchased
the historic W illam ette E vangelical C hurch at N orth
W illamette Boulevard and Gay Avenue for its new home
on A pril 8. But it took considerable rehabilitation and
m odification by the hard w ork o f volunteers and other
contractors to get the church ready for use.
Albina Christian Life Center officials said the congre
gation will have its final Sunday m orning Service at the
Albina site and then at 3:30 p.m. will parade along Albina
to K illingsw orth to its new church hom e.
A rea residents are invited to a reception that w ill
follow in the dining area o f the W illam ette B oulevard
church.

It turns out T om kept the same
secret about him self until last
month. M ichael V im ig, w ho lives
in Los A ngeles, started thinking
about L aughlin earlier this year
during m edia coverage o f a priest
sexual-abuse scandal in M assa
ch u setts.
He knew Laughlin had been
convicted and sent to a hom e for
priest abusers. But M ichael Vim ig
discovered in a new spaper article
that L aughlin lived in an apart
m ent on a church pension and
was passing him self o ff as a priest
to a com m unity that had no idea of
his past.
“It angered m e to the point that
I felt like I needed to do som ething
about it,” he said. In the article,
V im ing read the nam e o f M ichael
M orey, a Lake O sw ego attorney
w ho represents several m en w ho
are suing the Portland A rchdio
cese o ver Laughlin.
V im ing called M orey. A little
later, M orey received a call from
Tom Viming, who recently moved
to W ashington. “It w as apparent
to me that neither had talked to
each other,”he said.
