Hollywood is creating a buzz
with a new movie called "Joshua's
Soul” that’s based in the North
west. It’s coming to theatres soon
and is based on the life o f a young
man in search o f his soul, some
thing we all must take part in while
we navigate through life.
Global Theatre Group has re
cently joined forces with Premiere
Pictures and is starting pre-pro
duction o f “Joshua’s Soul” on
June 1. As a result of this project,
Hollis Production was bom and a
joint venture relationship devel
oped in order to make some inde
pendent film projects.
The vision of Hollis Pro
duction was bom out o f the
character actor Jeff Hollis,
who wanted to direct and
produce his own motion pic
tures while he worked as a
co-star on the popular TV
series “CPO Sharkey,” which
starred Don Rickies. It was
through J e f f s burning de
sire to take his acting career
to another level that spawned
his dream o f owning a pro
duction company one day.
He shared the dream with his
brothers Terry and Criss
Hollis.
As an avid basketball fan and
college basketball athlete, Jeff’s
love for the gam e rem ained in
tact. Jeff and Terry shared many
late night conversations d is
cussing how they would one
day ow n a production com pany
that would produce independent
films.
Jeff Hollis passed away on Jan.
12, 2000 and left Terry with the
mission to bring the dream into
fruition. Terry later enlisted the
services o f Don Butler, a “major
player” in the independent film
world, who is also the president of
G lo b a l T h e a tre G ro u p and
Totacom Entertainment. Butler
has been a good friend of the
Hollis brothers for some time.
When contacted by Terry about
his a m b itio n o f d e v e lo p in g
“Joshua’s Soul,” Butler was very
excited - anything to keep the
dreams o f Jeff Hollis alive. The
script o f “Joshua’s Soul” was
pulled out f a stack of projects Jeff
had left his family.
Standing behind this upcom
ing film are Hollywood heavy
weights like the chairman of Phoe
nix Pictures Mike Medavoy, who
w ill o v e rse e the p ro je c t.
M edavoy’s accomplishments in
clude 300 films with 152 Academy
Award nominations, including 15
of those nominated for Best Pic
ture.
Also joining forces with Don
Butler and M ike M edavoy is
Cassius W eathersby, who is tied
to the popular movies “House
Party,” “The Great White Hope,”
“The Newlywed Game” and “The
D atin g
G a m e .”
T h ro u g h
W eathersby, W illiam D. Moore
was enlisted to serve as the Ex
ecutive Vice President and Cre
ative Finance Director for Hollis
Productions.
Com plem enting the project is
th e H o n o ra b le P rin c e Sam
N aw nti, who served in the d e
velopm ent o f the production
com pany w hile he continues to
run his cam paign for G overnor
o f Imo State in N igeria.
Once in a while, a heartfelt
movie comes along that reaches
out, embraces as well as enlight
ens. “Joshua’s Soul” does just
that. The essence of the film is Jeff
Hollis. It is a tribute to him and a
reminder of his passion for life
that’s rivaled only by his love for
basketball and family.
The upcoming film can be seen
in major theatres and an exact date
of its release will soon be an-’
nounced.
