Salvation Army Honors Outstanding North Portlanders
The Salvation A rm y recently h o n ­
ored six Portland-area individuals for
their outstanding leadership and pub­
lic service in the North Portland co m ­
munity at the Sixth Annual North Port­
land Com m unity Pride Banquet that
was held on M arch 19.

North Portland Com m unity Pride Ban­
quet provides us the opportunity to
honor others w ho serve beside us.”

Wedding Anniversary
Hollywood Library to Close and Relocate
M ultnom ah C o u n ty ’s H olly­
w ood L ibrary will close at 6 p.m.
on Saturday, April 20 and reopen
in a new location at 10 a.m. on
T uesday, M ay 7.
T he lib rary ’s new location is
the ground floor o f a new mixed-
use building at 4040 N.E. Tillamook
St. M ultnom ah County Library
ow ns the library portion o f the
building, w hile its partner Sock­
eye H ollyw ood, LLC owns The
B ookm ark A partm ents on the
building’s three upper floors, as
w e ll as an 8 1 5 -s q u a re -fo o t,
ground-floor retail space.
At 13,000 square feet, the new
library is about double the size o f

Charles and Carolyn Hinton
are celebrating their 5O1- wed­
ding anniversary with a buffet
dinner at the Ramada Inn with
friends and relatives fro m Cali­
fornia and Las Vegas on Satur­
day, April 6. They were married
on April 3, 1952 in Vancouver.
The Hintons traveled exten­
sively while Charles served with
the United States Navy fo r 23
years, retiring as C hief Boat­
swain Mate.
He w orkedfor Code-a-phone
corporation fo r 16 years. The
'couple also owned and oper­
ated Chuck H inton's Ribs E x­
press fo r 10 years. Charles is a
member o f the African American
M en ’s Club. H e ’s also known in
the community as “D J Papa
Chuck. ”
Carolyn worked fo r Rexam
Graphics as a lab technician
fo r 25 years, retiring in 1999.
She serves on the Usher Board
at Ainsworth United Church o f
Christ and also serves with the
Worship Commission.
The Hinton 's three children
are Sandra Robinson, Janice
Minor and Barbarbara Hinton.
They have five grandchildren.
Demand Harris, Alnishea Minor,
A. J. Minor, Chailen Hinton and
Sham ¡qua Hinton. There are also
seven great-grandchildren and
a godson, K.C. Scott Jr.
the current library building. The
new library will feature original
art, a 50-seat m eeting room and
new com puters and furnishings.
D uring the tw o w eeks that
H ollyw ood Library is closed, cus­
tomers may pick up their reserved
books and other item s at the staff
