Memorial Pays Tribute to Couple
A memorial service will be held
at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 2,2002,
at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in
Portland for Ulysses and Beatrice
Leverett.
Both were long-time residents
of Portland who moved to Tor­
rance, Calif, during the latter part
o f2001 to be with their daughters.
Ulysses died Jan. 1, 2002 and
Beatrice died Jan. 12,2002 in Tor­
rance. Funeral services for both
were held at Christ Tabemacle Mis­
sionary Baptist Church in Long
Beatrice and Ulysses Leverett
Beach, Calif. They were both faith­
ful long-time members of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.
Ulysses was bom in Morlton, Ark. on Feb. 14, 1912. He moved to
Portland in 1942. He retired in 1975 after over 30 years of service with
Montgomery Ward.
He served as Vice President of the Portland Chapter of the NAACP,
was a member of Billy Webb Lodge 1050 of the Elks, the Royal Esquire
Club of Oregon and the Oregon-Washington Football Club. He also
en joyed playing bridge and was instrumental in the establishment of a
chapter of the American Bridge Association in Portland.
Beatrice was bom July 10,1913,in Wampoo, Ark.
She was a member of the Urban League Guild, Les Femmes Social
Club, the NAACP, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Oregon-Washington
Football Club, Royal Bridge Club and was a charter member of Jack and
Jill of America.
She worked for over 30 years as a librarian for Multnomah County.
They were preceded in death by their son, Ronald Henry Leverett and
baby daughter, Leverett. They leave to cherish their memories, two
daughters, Rosalind Leverett Dixon and Brenda Leverett Ford of Tor- ,
rance; her brother, Hubert Smith of Los Angeles; and a host of other
relatives and friends.

Itrie Golden
Itrie Golden died Feb. 16,2002, at age 83.
She was bom No v. 27,1918, in Louisiana to
Ardella and Mason Clark, one of four children
and the only girl.
She moved to Portland in 1944 and was a
homemaker. In 1932, she married Fred Golden;
he died in 1997.
Survivors include her sons, George E., James
E. and Dwight K.; daughters, Freddie S. Cole,
Golden
Brenda F. Golden and Debra D. Knapper; eight grandchildren; 13 great­
grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Itrie inspired strength, courage and laughter amongst all that knew
her. She will always be remembered as an extremely caring and giving
wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
At her request there will be no funeral or memorial. She will be
cremated and her remains interned with her husband, “Itrie and Fred
Together Forever. We love you once, we love you twice.”
Byron ‘Bumper’ Hammick Jr.
Funeral services will be held for Byron
“Bumper” Clay Hammick Jr. at the Morning
Star Baptist Church, 106 N.E. Ivy, on Friday,
March 1 at 1 p.m.
Hammickdied Friday. He was bom on Dec.
10, 1976 in Portland to Lynetta Jones and
Byron Hammick Sr.
Survivors include his mother and father;
sisters, Lynnetta Jones and Willina Thomp­

Hammick Jr.
Hammick; daughters, Shandrea Hammick and
Leijana Hammick; and grandmothers, Ida Mae Miller and Mattie
