bringing his Boost Education of
Arthritis Treatment campaign to
Portland Thursday, Feb. 14 and
Friday, Feb. 15 at the Greenwood
Inn, 10700 S.W. Allen Blvd. in
Beaverton, from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Russell, in partnership with lo
cal health organizations across
the country, is helping people
identify the signs and symptoms
of arthritis.
R ussell rev olutionized the
game of basketball with his defen-
sive wizardry and was voted one
o f the top 50 basketball players of
all time. Now he looks forward to
taking his message about the im
portance of arthritis treatment to
the American public.
While arthritis affects more than
2.8 million, or nearly 15 percent of
Oregon residents, many sufferers
are not seeking diagnosis and treat
ment for their joint aches and pains.
Russell, a long time sufferer of
osteoarthritis who leads an active
lifestyle, had to limit his daily ac
tivities because of his arthritis

Backhoe Smashes Bank, Safe Stolen
(A P)— A person drove a back
hoe through the wall of a credit
union in Salem last week to rob the
bank.
W hen police arrived at the
scene o f the crime, they found the
backhoe parked outside and a 3-
foot by 4-foot gray metal safe was
missing.
. Thursday, the safe was recov
ered at a nearby vacant residence.
Police received a tip that a sus
picious object was being moved
into the residence, said Lt. Chuck
Bennett.
Investigators have identified
people they believe might be con
nected to the robbery, but have
not make their names public.
“This is truly one of the more
