There are currently vacancies
on P ortland’s Urban Forestry
Com m ission. We Would like to
bring the Commission up to full
strength by filling the vacancies
with citizens who are interested
in shaping Portland’s future.
The Urban Forestry Commission
is made up of 11 volunteers
who have an interest in the pres­
ervation of trees and the en­
hancement of Portland’s urban
forest to m axim ize the eco­
nomic, social, and environmen­
tal benefits that an Urban For­
est can provide to city residents.
The C om m ission has active
p ro g ra m s
th a t
in c lu d e
Portland’s Heritage Tree Pro­
gram, special tree contests, and
the Neighborhood Tree Liaison
program. Com m issioners are
also heavily involved in commu­
nity education efforts and hear
citizen permit appeals.
Since the Com m ission repre­
sents the entire community, it
is im portant that the makeup
of the Comm ission mirrors the
citizenry of the entire City. Be­
yond the need for persons who
have an interest in the health
of our urban forest... We are
looking for representation from
our senior community and also
from our younger citizens; we
are looking for geographical
representation as well as per­
sons of color; we are looking
for technical experts and also
generalists. It helps to have
representatives from the busi­
ness community, educational
community, legal community,
landscape architects etc. All
interested persons are encour­
aged to apply.
