Gloria Wilma Penfield

who died Jan. 9 at age 48.
Mrs. Penfield was bom Gloria Wilma
Quiver on Dec. 1 9 ,1953inBum s.
She moved to Portland as a child.
She was a certified nurse’s assistant
in private care until retiring due to
poor health.
Survivors include her daughters,
Wendy Holmes and Nia Vaughan;
son, Derick Powe; and two grandchil
dren.
Albert Reed
Funeral services were held Jan. 18,
2002 in Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in
Portland for Albert Reed, who died
Jan. 11 at age 87.
Mr. Reed was bom May 27,1914, in
Fayette, Miss. During W orld W ar II,
were he served in the U.S. Army. He
moved to Portland in 1944 and was a
chef for Union Pacific Railroad for 32
years,retiring in 1977. H ew asam em -
ber of the church for more than 50
years and a deacon. In 1944, he mar
ried Ruth Young; she died in 2000. •
Survivors include his daughters,
Lynn Gibson and Velita Hammon; eight
grandchildren; nine great-grandchil
dren; and one great-great-grandchild.
His son, Stanley, died in 1985.
Maxcine Moore
Funeral services were held Jan. 29,
2002 in Mt. Sinai Freedom Assembly
Church of God in Christ in Portland for
Maxcine Moore, who died Jan. 22 at
age 86.
Mrs. Moore was bom Maxcine
Stiggers on Jan. 29, 1915 in Naples,
Texas. She was a homemaker who
moved to Portland from Texas in 1987.
In the early 1930s, she married Curley
Massey Sr.; they divorced. In 1947,
she married J.T. Moore.
Survivors include her husband;
daughters. H azel M assey, H elen
Massey and Mildred Moore; sons,
Lurley Massey Jr., Jim m y L..Massey
and Donnie Ray Massey; brother,
James Johnson; 20 grandchildren; 64
great-grandchildren; and 30 great-
great-grandchildren.
Elies ‘Cy’ Greene
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. on
Wednesday, Jan. 30,2002 in St. Philip
the Deacon Episcopal Church in Port
land for Elies “Cy” Greene, who died
Jan. 23 at age 82.
Mr. Greene was bom Nov. 20,1919,
in Little Rock, Ark. He moved to Port- .
land in 1927 and graduated from Wash
ington High School.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was •
a forklift operator for Waterway s Ter
minal until retiring in 1985. He was a
longtime member o f the church. In
1947, he married Margaret Easter.
Survivors include his wife; son,
Ahmad Muhammad; daughter, Bar
bara Broadous; six grandchildren; and
nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held at 11 a.m. Friday,
Jan. 25,2002, in Cornerstone Commu
nity Church of God in Christ in Port
land for James I. Knox, who died Jan.
18 at age 80.
Mr. Knox was bom Oct. 21,1921 in
Arkadelphia, Ark. About 1943, he
moved to Portland, where he worked
in the Swan Island shipyards for 40
years, retiring in 1983. In 1973, he
married Frankie Scott.
Survivors include his wife; brother,
Lee J.; and sisters, Emola Vaughn,
Wilma Knox and Lois “Ruth” Walters.
