fic acc ident in Gresham killed a six-
year-old boy from Boring.

fam ily ’ s car when it was struck by
a pickup truck driven by 42-year-
old Tim othy Paul G illum o f north­
east Portland.
T he boy suffered severe head
traum a and died Dec. 26 at O H SU
hospital.

T he Portland Police Bureau
Traffic Division is asking foryour
help in identifying and appre­
hending the driver o f a vehicle,
w hich struck and seriously in­
ju red a Portland man.
On T hursday, Dec. 6, at about
6:15 p.m ., 25-year-old M atthew
L eism er was riding his bicycle
next to the curb, in the 11100
block o f S.E. C herry Blossom
D r., w hen he w as struck by a car
w hich fled the scene w ithout
stopping.
A ccording to w itnesses, the

agents arrested 30 em ployees at

D ec. 12 on charges o f using fake
docum ents to get their jobs.
O f 2,159 em ployees screened
by the Im m igration and N atural­
ization Service, 124 were found to
be working illegally, said Anthony
Ho, special agent in charge o f INS
investigations.
Ninety w orkers had com m itted
som e kind o f im m igration viola­
tion; those arrested w ere the m ost
serious offenders, he said.
The 30 w orkers w ere respon­
sible for baggage handling and
loading, construction and food
and jan ito rial services.
N one o f those arrested w orked
in secure areas, but m any had
badges allow ing them into sensi­
tive areas. H o said.
“T hey w ere acard -sw ip e aw ay
from access to the airplanes,” he
said. “O ne can see w here this
poses a security problem .”
U.S. Attorney Mike Mosman said
the arrests are not part o f the nation­
wide anti-terror investigation.

Escapee’s Capture Follows New Assault
(A P )— A convicted rapist was
arrested last W ednesday after he
escaped from a state prison on
Christm as Eve and allegedly sexu­
ally assaulted a w om an.

rested shortly after noon by tw o
O regon State Police troopers re­
sponding to a call from a state
prison w orker w ho spotted Bates
along a m ain street near Interstate
5, police said.

investigating a report that Bates
allegedly sexually assaulted a 46-
year-old w om an in the laundry
room o f her apartm ent building

She is believed to be driving a
white 1991 Plymouth Voyager van,
W ashington L icense, 557 M KH.
